The Clydesdale Draught Horse

Oil on Board – 20x16inches

The Choctaw Nation experienced banishment and oppression during their ‘Trail of Tears’ (1831 to 1833). In 1847, they demonstrated great empathy for the Irish during the great famine (1845 – 1852), sending approximately $170 ($5,000+ in today's money) to Ireland to provide food and aid during the Great Famine.

This act of generosity, fuelled by shared experiences of famine and oppression, created a longstanding bond that is commemorated by the "Kindred Spirits" sculpture in Midleton, County Cork (Our Donegal, 2019).
